CLUBS

Lumumba Secondary School currently has a total of 3 active school clubs.

These are students' clubs aim to support the students spirit and promote partnership with other local and international Organisations .

Those clubs are:

STEM CLUB

STEM means Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics. This clubs aims at inspiring the students in pursuing STEM studies for development and so as to perform excellently in Science subjects as well as to implement the knowledge acquired in Science so as to overcome some challenges in the communities.

The club currently has 32 members. Members of stem club have advantage to attend the one week Stem boot camp in every January at either Nelson Mandela Institute for Science and Technology at Arusha or Marian University at Bagamoyo.

Mr Ame H. Vuai, a Mathematics Teacher at Lumumba who is also a Coordinator for both Young Scientists Tanzanian and Roots and Shoots support supervise and monitor these clubs for the benefit of Lumumba School and Zanzibar in general.

ROOT & SHOOTS club

This club has about 35 members categorized from all classes from form one to form 6. This club involves members who work together to make change in one or more of the following:

  • (i) Care and Concern for Environment
  • (ii) Care and Concern for Animals
  • (iii) Care and Concern for Communities

The Lumumba ROOTS and SHOOTS club has focussed on Environmental change, through Developing Botanic Garden and Planting activities .

The Botanic garden is a special garden consists if various species of plants that gives club members and other students to conserve and also to pursue some scientific research.

Many club members of Roots and shoots have another opportunity to participate in Young Scientists Tanzania ( YST) Competitions.

Other opportunities include getting a chance of travel to chumbe Island to learn about environmental conservation and also to experiences corals reef . Another project conducted by Roots and shoots club is school plantation .

Also they practice school cleaning and dustbin practicing .

UN CLUB

UN club means United Nations Club established and coordinated by a local organization known as Youth of United Nations Association (YUNA ZANZIBAR). There are 30 Members of UN club at Lumumba School. This club aim to influence the students to perform UN work at school and community levels. Members of UN clubs are voluntarily devoting their time in helping the communities particularly during UN days in events such as Commemorations and observence of some UN days

The priorities for UN clubs members are Education, Reproductive health, Environment and other Crosscutting issues, nowadays UN clubs pursues duties under SDGs platform ( Sustainable Development Goals) . UN club is sub entity of YUNA Zanzibar which bring together the youth to United Nations and United Nation to youth.

Members of UN clubs have the opportunity to be appointed as youth advisory Panel of UNFPA (YAP member), also most of the members are invited in various meetings Seminars, Conferences and workshops conducted by government and non governmental Institutions including UN Sub-Office Zanzibar. Through these clubs, there are notable few graduates from Lumumba who have been employed and working with UN agencies and other International organizations in Zanzibar.

The certificate awarded to UN club members is valued and most of the time it considered as additional qualification especial when applying for the job. Now it is the right time for other students to join UN clubs at Lumumba school.
